Referring doctors

The Early Drug Development Center (EDDC) is always looking for treatments that suit patients best. As a referring doctor, it is good to know that clinical trials are not only for patients with no further treatment options. Together with referring doctors, we are looking for optimal treatment methods for patients with different tumor types and tumor stages. On this page, you will find more information about which patients are eligible for the early phases of clinical research, what the inclusion criteria for these patients are in general and how the referral process for early clinical research works. To give you an idea about our motivation we included stories from two of our specialists.

Which patients are eligible for clinical trials?

In clinical trials, there are usually four phases (phase 1 – 4) each with its own goal. At the Early Drug Development Center (EDDC), we focus on phase 1 and phase 2 clinical trials. Phase 1 trials will look into how the human body responds to the drug. For instance, looking into metabolism, administration or correct dosage. In phase 2, two things are investigated:

  • If the treatment works for a specific group of patients.

  • What the best balance between safety of and response to the treatment is.
